Shoremen Swim Past Bears, 125-66
Violette Wins Two Individual Events

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Freshman Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) won two individual events as the Washington College men's swimming team improved to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in Centennial Conference meets with a 125-66 win over host Ursinus College this afternoon in Collegeville, PA.

Violette captured the 400 individual medley in 4:24.51 and the 500 freestyle in 4:57.16. Both of those times were Washington College season-bests. His time in the 400 individual medley made him the Shoremen's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in that event, while his 500 freestyle time made him the Shoremen's fifth-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Sophomore Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and senior Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) finished first and second and then second and first, respectively in a pair of freestyle events. Soper won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.03, while Raleigh was second in 1:55.35. In the 100 freestyle, it was Raleigh winning in 52.61, while Soper was second in 52.87.

Sophomore Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) won the 200 butterfly in a WC season-best time of 2:04.83. The Shoremen also won both relay events as Violette, senior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall), Pollock, and junior Phil Munger (Devon, PA/Conestoga) won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.24 and junior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson), Raleigh, freshman Tim Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield), and Soper won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.40.

Thomas finished second in both the 50 freestyle (23.84) and the 200 breaststroke (2:23.33), while Wentzel was second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:44.41 and Munger was second in the 400 individual medley in 4:54.47. Senior Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) added a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:12.15

The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at McDaniel.
