10, 2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College men's swimming team cruised to a 137-65 non-conference win over visiting St. Mary's this afternoon at Casey Swim Center. The Shoremen's victory upped their record to 2-1 on the year and was Kim Lessard's 100th win as head coach of the Shoremen. The Seahawks fell to 0-2 with the loss. Sophomore Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield), senior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall), and freshman Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) each won two individual events for the Shoremen. Soper won the 50 freestyle in 22.81 and the 100 freestyle in 51.43. Thomas swam a Washington College season-best time of 2:06.64 to win the 200 individual medley and won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.69. Violette finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.33 and in the 500 freestyle in 5:04.88. Junior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) added a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 10:47.64, while sophomore Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) won the 100 butterfly in 54.12. Violette, Soper, freshman Tim Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield), and Wentzel won the 200 freestyle relay in a WC season-best time of 1:33.04. Tim Beadell also finished second in the 50 freestyle in 24.83, while sophomore Dan Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield) took second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:57.36. Senior Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) finished second in the 100 butterfly in 57.80, while junior Mike Caro (Yorktown, VA/Yorktown) was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.97. Lessard is now 100-69-1 in 17 seasons as the Shoremen's head coach. She has also compiled a 149-58 record in 18 years as the head coach of Washington's women's swimming team. The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference meet at Elizabethtown.
