Washington Plucks Salisbury, 123.5-81.5
WC Achieves 100th All-Time Victory

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Freshman Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) won three individual events as Washington College downed visiting Eastern Shore rival Salisbury, 123.5-81.5, in a non-conference men's swimming meet on Wednesday evening at the Casey Swim Center. With the victory, the men's swimming program won their 100th all-time meet. Washington improves to 1-1 on the season, while Salisbury falls to 1-3. The Shoremen have now won 17 consecutive meets over the Sea Gulls.

Violette won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.34, the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 58.46 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.81.

Sophomore Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and senior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) each won two individual events. Soper won the 50-yard freestyle (22.38) and the 100-yard freestyle (50.54). Thomas captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.02) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.22).

Other Washington winners on the evening in individual events was junior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:37.16) and sophomore Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) in the 100-yard butterfly (54.08).

Wentzel also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of (5:19.95). Other second place finishers were senior Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.16) and junior Phil Munger (Devon, PA/Conestoga) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.28).

In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Becker, Thomas, Pollock and Soper won the event with a time of 1:41.71.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference meet against visiting St. Mary's (MD).
