2008 KEY LARGO, FL - The Washington College men's swim team finished third of six teams at the Orange Bowl Swim Classic this morning in Key Largo, FL. Division I schools Boston College and George Mason finished first and second, respectively, with Division I St. Peter's finishing fourth and Vassar and Oberlin finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. The event was held outdoors in the 25-meter pool at the Jacobs Aquatic Center. Sophomore Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) was second in the 50 butterfly in 27.92 and fourth in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.83. Senior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) finished third in the 50 breaststroke in 32.93 and fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.75. Sophomore Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) was fifth in the 50 freestyle in 26.63 and sixth in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.14, while junior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) placed fifth in the 100 freestyle in 59.56 and sixth in the 50 freestyle in 26.68. Freshman Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook), Thomas, Pollock, and Soper, were fourth in the 200 medley relay in 1:57.41. The Shoremen return to action January 15th with a 5:00 p.m. home meet against Goucher.
