Dickinson Bedevils Washington, 103-101
Red Devils Go 1-2 In Final Event To Capture Victory

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Despite winning eight of 11 events and recording six season-best times, the Washington College men's swim team fell to visiting Dickinson, 103-101, on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's swimming action at the Casey Swim Center. The Red Devils improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in conference meets, while the Shoremen drop to 4-4 and 0-3 respectively.

Dickinson trailed 99-88 going into the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, but placed first and second to win the event and the meet.

Freshman Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook) won the 200 freestyle (1:49.49) and the 200 backstroke (2:03.35), both Washington College season-best times. Violette became the ninth fastest swimmer all-time in the 200 freestyle.

Junior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) became Washington's fifth all-time fastest swimmer in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:34.15 to win the event. It was also a season-best time for the Shoremen. He placed second in the 500 freestyle with a mark of 5:11.85.

Senior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:07.24) and the 200 breaststroke (2:16.35). His time in the 200 breaststroke was a WC season-best mark.

Sophomore Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) recorded two WC season-best times on the day in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Soper won the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.29 and finished second in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 49.63.

Sophomore Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) captured the 200 butterfly in 2:05.87.

The relay team of Violette, Thomas, Pollock and Soper won the 400 medley relay in 3:42.06.

The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference away meet at Ursinus.
