200 Yard Medley Relay Team Sets Pool Record

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The 200 yard medley relay team of junior Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East), junior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall), freshman Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) and senior Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) set a pool record with a time of 1:40.97 as host Washington College defeated visiting Ursinus College, 100-61, in a Centennial Conference men's swim meet this afternoon at the Casey Swim Center. The Shoremen improved to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference with the win. Ursinus drops to 2-9 overall and 0-7 in the conference.

Thomas was also the top performer in two individual events. He won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.46 seconds and swam the fastest in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.60. Colin Soper set a season-best mark in the 100 backstroke witha mark of 57.25, winning by .12 of a second. Other winners were Becker in the 400 individual medley (4:44.60), Pollock in the 100 butterfly (54.31), sophomore Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) in the 100 freestyle (51.86) and freshman Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) in the 500 freestyle (5:13.81). The 800 freestyle relay team of Chris Soper, Wentzel, Pollock and Colin Soper were the fastest team in the event with a mark of 7:40.44, setting a season-best time.

Wentzel was also second in the 200 freestyle (1:53.68). Other second place finishers were sophomore Phil Munger (Devon, PA/Conestoga) in the 400 IM (4:46.35), freshman Justin Morgan (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph) in the 100 butterfly (57.23) and junior Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) in the 500 freestyle (5:20.55). The 800 freestyle relay team of Morgan, sophomore Kevin Lonergan (Milford, DE/Milford), Raleigh and freshman Dan Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield) swam the second fastest team in the event (8:10.33).

The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet on Senior Day against visitng McDaniel.
