200 Medley Relay Team Breaks Pool Record

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The 200 medley relay team of junior Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East), junior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall), freshman Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military), and senior Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) broke the Casey Swim Center record for the second straight meet as host Washington College defeated McDaniel, 109.5-45.5, in a Centennial Conference men's swim meet this afternoon in Chestertown. The Shoremen improved to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference with the win.

Becker, Thomas, Pollock, and Colin Soper swam a WC season-best time of 1:40.05 to win the 200 medley relay and break the pool record they set one week ago today by .92 seconds.

Sophomore Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) won two individual events for the Shoremen - the 200 freestyle in 1:53.03 and the 500 freestyle in 5:03.38. Thomas won the 200 individual medley in a WC season-best time of 2:03.36, Becker won the 100 backstroke in 57.95, and Pollock won the 100 butterfly in 54.31. Freshman Justin Morgan (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph) added a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 23.48, while freshman Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) won the 100 freestyle in 50.83.

Swimming as an exhibition, Thomas turned in the fastest time in the 100 breaststroke, finishing the race in a WC season-best 1:00.26. Chris Soper, Morgan, Wentzel, and Colin Soper turned in the fastest time as an exhbition entry in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in a WC season-best 1:30.19. That 200 freestyle relay time just missed the pool record by one-tenth of a second.

Chris Soper added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:55.46), Morgan was second in the 100 butterfly (56.44), Pollock placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:15.67), and Becker tied for second in the 50 freestyle (23.75).

The Shoremen's final dual meet of the season is slated for Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Swarthmore.
