Shoremen Best Bullets for First Time
Washington Claims Nine of 11 Events

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College men's swimming team defeated visiting Gettysburg College for the first time ever this afternoon in a Centennial Conference meet at Casey Swim Center. The Shoremen (1-0, 1-0 Centennial) won the meet, 125-79, and took first place in nine of the 11 events. Gettysburg (0-1, 0-1) was 13-0 all-time against Washington prior to today's meet.

Senior Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield), freshman Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield), and junior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) each won two individual events for the Shoremen. Colin Soper took first in the 200 freestyle in 1:49.02 and the 500 freestyle in 5:06.11, while brother Chris was first in the 50 freestyle in 22.70 and in the 100 freestyle in 49.53. Thomas won the 200 individual medley in 2:05.53 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.89.

Freshman Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military) became Washington's fourth-fastest swimmer ever in the 200 butterfly by winning the event in 2:04.00. Junior Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) won the 200 backstroke in 2:08.43. Becker, Thomas, Pollock, and Chris Soper won the 400 medley relay in 3:45.36.

Sophomore Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) was second in the 1000 freestyle (10:56.36) and the 200 backstroke (2:13.64). Individual third-place finishes were turned in by freshman Justin Morgan (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph) in the 50 freestyle (23:09) and 100 freestyle (51.21), freshman Dan Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield) in the 1000 freestyle (11:04.61), junior Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) in the 200 freestyle (1:57.09), sophomore Phil Munger (Devon, PA/Conestoga) in the 200 individual medley (2:11.17), and Pollock in the 500 freestyle (5:17.26).

Colin Soper, Munger, Morgan, and Wentzel finished second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:25.30.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. non-conference meet at Eastern Shore rival Salisbury.
