Colin Soper Wins Two Events for WC

LANCASTER, PA - Host Franklin & Marshall College topped visiting Washington College, 112-93, in Centennial Conference men's swimming action tonight in Lancaster. Senior Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) led Washington (2-1, 1-1 Centennial) with a pair of individual first-place finishes.

Colin Soper won the 200 freestyle (1:48.83) and the 100 freestyle (49.13). Freshman Justin Morgan (Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph) added a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle (23.19) and junior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) was first in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.52).

Junior Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East), Thomas, freshman Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military), and freshman Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) won the 400 medley relay in 3:41.33.

Thomas was second in the 200 individual medley (2:04.09), while Pollack was second in the 500 freestyle (5:11.66).

Individual third-place finishes were recorded by freshman Dan Beadell (Timonium, MD/Loyola Blakefield) in the 1000 freestyle (11:00.82), sophomore Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) in the 200 freestyle (1:55.14) and 500 freestyle (5:11.92), Chris Soper in the 50 freestyle (23.60), Pollack in the 200 butterfly (2:04.85), and Becker in the 200 backstroke (2:10.03).

Washington led for much of the meet, but the Diplomats held a 99-89 lead going into the final event - the 400 freestyle relay. The Shoremen needed a one-two finish in the event to win the meet. Washington's "A" relay completed the race first, but was disqualified. As a result, F&M finished in first and second to account for the wider final margin.

The Shoremen return to action November 18th with a 1:00 p.m. non-conference meet at St. Mary's (MD).
