29, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College men's swim team was defeated by Widener ,137-66, on the road Tuesday evening. Sophomore Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) and junior Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) each recorded two individual first-place finishes for Washington in the losing effort. Thomas earned his first-place finishes in the 200 butterfly and the 200 breaststroke. He recorded a WC season-best time of 2:08.84 in the 200 butterfly, and finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.95. Soper earned first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle in 1:50.06 and 5:07.28, respectively. Freshman Phil Munger (Devon, PA/Conestoga) finished second in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.89. Soper and Munger, along with sophomore Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) and freshman Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) finished second in the 400 freestyle relay in a team season-best time of 3:28.74. The loss drops the Shoremen's record to 2-3, while the Pioneers improve to 2-1. The Shoremen return to action on Saturday, December 10, at 1:00 p.m. on the road against non-conference opponent Elizabethtown.
