Shoremen Dunk Ursinus, 126-50
Thomas & Soper Win Two Events

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Sophomore Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) and junior Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) each won two individual events as visiting Washington College defeated host Ursinus College, 126-50, in a Centennial Conference men's swim meet this afternoon in Collegeville, PA. The Shoremen improved to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference with the win.

Thomas won the 100 butterfly in a WC season-best time of 55.83 and the 100 breaststroke in a WC season-best time of 1:01.92. Soper won the 50 freestyle in 23.16 and the 100 freestyle in 50.76. Freshman Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.13, freshman Phil Munger (Devon, PA/Conestoga) was first in the 400 individual medley in 4:52.95, sophomore Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) won the 100 backstroke in a WC season-best time of 59.42, and sophomore Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) took first in the 500 freestyle in 5:28.19.

Raleigh was also second in 200 freestyle in 1:56.02. Senior Dean Campbell (La Plata, MD/La Plata) added a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:01.63), while junior Lars Kalp (Everett, PA/Mercersburg Academy) was second in the 500 freestyle (5:34.90).

Soper also swam a 2:20.70 exhibition 200 breaststroke to become WC's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Becker, Thomas, Campbell, and Munger won the 200 medley relay in 1:45.10.

The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at McDaniel.
