4, 2006 WESTMINSTER, MD - Junior Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield), recorded two individual first place finishes as visiting Washington College defeated host McDaniel College, 48-40, in Centennial Conference men's swimming this afternoon in Westminster, MD. The Shoremen improved to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial Conference with the win, while the Green Terror slipped to 2-8 and 1-5 with the loss. Soper recorded first place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyle in 1:51.55 and 5:00.17, respectively. His time in the 500 freestyle was a WC season-best. Sophomores Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) and Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) each recorded one individual first and second place finishes. Thomas won the 200 individual medley in 2:06.38, and took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.01. Becker took first in the 100 backstroke in 59.54 while placing second in the 50 freestyle in 23.62. Freshman Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) recorded two second place finishes in the 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle in times of 52.04 and 1:54.89, respectively. Senior Dean Campbell (La Plata, MD/La Plata) notched a second place finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.69, while sophomore Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) placed second in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:28.03. The team of Becker, Thomas, Soper and freshman Phil Munger (Devon, PA/Conestoga) placed first in the 200 medley relay in a WC season-best time of 1:43.36. The Shoremen will compete in their final dual meet of the season Wednesday at home against Swarthmore at 6:30 p.m. |
