November 30, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD - Visiting Widener University defeated host Washington College, 116-83, this evening in men's swimming action at Casey Swim Center. Sophomore Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) won two individual events in the loss for the Shoremen (2-3). Soper swept the distance events, winning the 1000 freestyle in 11:05.82 and the 500 freestyle in 5:09.33. The Shoremen also won the 200 freestyle relay as sophomore Trevor Carouge (Oxford, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul), Soper, freshman Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East), and sophomore Peter McVaugh (Avondale, PA/McKean) finished in a WC season-best time of 1:30.68. Freshman Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) placed second in both the 200 individual medley and the 200 breaststroke, finishing in WC season-best times of 2:07.29 and 2:19.57, respectively. Sophomore Lars Kalp (Everett, PA/Mercersburg Academy) was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:29.63), while freshman Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) took second in the 200 freestyle (1:54.72). Carouge added a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle (22.64), while Becker was second in the 200 backstroke (2:08.57). Senior Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) finished second in the 200 butterfly in a WC season-best time of 2:07.65. The Shoremen return to action with a 1:00 p.m. home meet against Elizabethtown on December 11th. |
