Shoremen Prevail Over Salisbury
Soper & Thomas Each Win Two Individual Events

SALISBURY, MD - The Washington College men's swim team evened its record this season at 1-1 with a 135-70 victory at Eastern Shore rival Salisbury University this evening. Sophomore Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and freshman Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) each won two individual events in the victory. The Shoremen captured first place in 10 of the meet's 11 events overall.

Soper took first place in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:02.58 and in the 400-meter freestyle (4:43.52). (Salisbury University's pool is 25 meters long, as opposed to the more common college lengths of 25 or 50 yards.) Thomas won the 100-meter freestyle in 57.05 and the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:11.17.

Sophomore Trevor Carouge (Oxford, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul), sophomore Peter McVaugh (Avondale, PA/McKean), senior Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), and freshman Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) each won one individual event. Carouge was first in the 50-meter freestyle in 25.07, while McVaugh touched the wall first in the 200-meter individual medley in 2:26.94. Jensen won the 100-meter butterfly in 1:04.49. Becker finished first in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:05.18.

Washington also won both relay events. Becker, McVaugh, Thomas, and Carouge won the 200-meter medley relay in 1:55.35, while McVaugh, freshman Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern), Jensen, and Soper took first place in the 200-meter freestyle relay in 1:44.09.

Raleigh swam to second-place finishes in two individual events - the 800-meter freestyle (10:08.33) and the 100-meter freestyle (58.29). Jensen added a second-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle (2:08.64), while Becker placed second in the 200-meter individual medley (2:28.28).

The Shoremen are back in action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Ursinus.
