Relay Breaks Pool Record in Win

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Freshman Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East), freshman Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall), sophomore Trevor Carouge (Oxford, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul), and sophomore Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) broke the Casey Swim Center record in the 200 medley relay as host Washington College defeated visiting McDaniel College, 108-47, in Centennial Conference men's swimming this afternoon in Chestertown, MD. The Shoremen improved to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial Conference with the win, while the Green Terror slipped to 4-7 and 1-5 with the loss.

The Shoremen's winning 200 medley relay team swam a WC season-best time of 1:41.33 to break the pool record. Washington also took first place in six individual events. Freshman Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) won both the 200 individual medley (2:15.67) and the 500 freestyle (5:24.01). Carouge won the 100 butterfly in a WC season-best time of 55.61, while Thomas won the 200 breaststroke in a WC season-best time of 2:17.90. Soper finished first in the 100 freestyle (51.64), while Becker was first in the 100 backstroke (58.15).

Sophomore Peter McVaugh (Avondale, PA/McKean) finished second in the 100 backstroke in 59.02 and tied with Soper for second in the 50 freestyle in 22.96. Sophomore Lars Kalp (Everett, PA/Mercersburg Academy) was second in the 200 freestyle (2:00.92), junior Shane Walsh (Mitchellville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:22.53), and junior Dean Campbell (La Plata, MD/La Plata) placed second in the 100 freestyle (55.04).

Swimming as an exhibition entry, Carouge, Soper, McVaugh, and Becker swam a meet-best and WC season-best time of 1:30.45 in the 200 freestyle relay.

The Shoremen will compete in their final dual meet of the season Wednesday at Swarthmore at 6:00 p.m.
