January 18, 2005 TOWSON, MD - The Washington College men's swimming team broke the pool record in the 200 medley relay in a 97-52 victory over host Goucher College this evening in Towson, MD. Freshman Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East), freshman Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall), sophomore Trevor Carouge (Oxford, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul), and sophomore Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) broke the record with a first-place time of 1:44.20. The Shoremen also recorded five individual first-place finishes in the meet. Carouge won the 50 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 22.43. Soper finished first in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.10, Thomas in the 200 butterfly in 2:07.67, Becker in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.69, and freshman Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) in the 500 freestyle in 5:25.11. Washington swimmers finished in second place in six individual events. Raleigh was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.83, Becker in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.15, senior Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) in the 200 butterfly in 2:10.10, Soper in the 200 backstroke in 2:13.53, sophomore Lars Kalp (Everett, PA/Mercersburg Academy) in the 500 freestyle in 5:34.11, and junior Shane Walsh (Mitchellville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) in the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.62. The Shoremen, now 4-3 this season, return to action January 29th with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference meet at Dickinson. |
