WAC Nearly Upends Defending Champs
Shoremen Win Seven Events Against F&M

LANCASTER, PA - The Washington College men's swim team took first place in seven of the meet's 11 events, but host Franklin & Marshall, the defending Centennial Conference Champion, narrowly came away with a 107-98 victory this afternoon in Lancaster, PA. Washington (2-2, 1-2 Centennial) won both relay events and got one individual first-place finish each from five different swimmers.

The Shoremen opened the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay as freshman Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East), freshman Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall), sophomore Peter McVaugh (Avondale, PA/McKean), and sophomore Trevor Carouge (Oxford, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) finished in a WC season-best time of 3:46.51.

Carouge took first place in the 50 freestyle in 22.75, remaining undefeated this season in that event. Washington went one-two in the 200 individual medley as McVaugh won in a WC season-best time of 2:08.06 and Thomas took second in 2:08.67. Sophomore Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) won the 100 freestyle in 50.55. Becker swam a WC season-best time of 2:05.51 to win the 200 backstroke and become the Shoremen's sixth-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Thomas captured first place in the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.24.

Washington finished the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay as Soper, Becker, Carouge, and McVaugh swam a WC season-best time of 3:21.73.

Soper added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.54

The Shoremen's next meet will be a 6:00 p.m. home meet against Widener on November 30th.
