15, 2003 COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Sophomore Andy Wesolek (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and senior John Paul Evans (Westminster, MD/Westminster) each won three individual events as the Washington College men's swim team topped host Ursinus, 114-66, in a Centennial Conference meet this afternoon. The Shoremen (2-1 overall, 1-1 Centennial) won all but one event in the meet. Wesolek's first-place finishes came in the 50 freestyle (23.48), the 100 butterfly (56.59), and the 500 freestyle (5:13.60). Evans finished first in the 400 individual medley (4:34.11), the 100 backstroke (59.15), and the 100 breaststroke (1:04.31). Senior Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey) added two individual first-place finishes, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:54.16 and the 100 freestyle in 51.74. Freshman Lars Kalp (Everett, PA/Mercersburg Academy) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:30.67. In addition to sweeping the individual events, the Shoremen also won the 200 medley relay as sophomore Shane Walsh (Mitchellville, MD/Archbishop Spalding), freshman Michael Manen (West Orange, NJ/West Orange), sophomore Dean Campbell (La Plata, MD/La Plata), and senior Tyler Lowry (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) swam a 1:59.50 in an uncontested race. The Shoremen's next meet is set for a week from today - a 1:00 p.m. conference home meet against Franklin & Marshall. |
