Evans Breaks Pool Record in Loss
Swarthmore Downs WC, 127-76

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Washington College senior John Paul Evans (Westminster, MD/Westminster) broke the pool record in the 200 breaststroke, but the host Washington College Shoremen fell to visiting Swarthmore, 127-76, in Centennial Conference men's swimming action this evening at Casey Swim Center. The Shoremen finish the dual meet season with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-5 record in conference meets.

Evans won the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.31, breaking his own pool record by two seconds and missing an NCAA "B Cut" time by two-tenths of a second. He also won the 200 individual medley in a WC season-best time of 2:01.79. Freshman Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) won the 200 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 1:49.62, while senior Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey) captured the 100 backstroke in 58.93.

Soper, Kuhn, and freshman Chris Tinsman (Georgetown, DE/home school) each finished second in one event. Soper was second in the 200 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 1:49.62, Kuhn was second in the 200 individual medley in a personal season-best time of 2:03.12, and Tinsman was second in the 100 backstroke in a personal season-best time of 1:00.79. Kuhn also swam a WC season-best time of 4:28.44 in an exhibition 400 individual medley.

Both Washington relays finished second in WC season-best times. Kuhn, Evans, junior Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), and Soper finished the 200 medley relay in 1:45.99, while Jensen, sophomore Dean Campbell (La Plata, MD/La Plata), Tinsman, and senior Tyler Lowry (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) completed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:36.01.

The Shoremen will compete in the Centennial Conference Championships, hosted by Franklin & Marshall, February 20th-22nd.
