McDaniel Slips Past Shoremen
Evans, Soper, Relays Finish First

WESTMINSTER, MD - The Washington College men's swim team fell to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in the Centennial Conference with a 52-43 loss to host McDaniel College this afternoon. Senior John Paul Evans (Westminster, MD/Westminster) and freshman Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) each won one individual event for the Shoremen in the loss.

Evans, swimming in his hometown of Westminster, won the 200 breaststroke, setting a new pool record of 2:13.51 in the process. Soper won the 500 freestyle in 5:04.84 to become the Shoremen's 10th-fastest swimmer ever in that event.

Washington also won both relays. Soper, freshman Chris Tinsman (Georgetown, DE/home school), junior Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), and senior Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey) won the 400 freestyle relay in a WC season-best time of 3:26.10. Sophomore Shane Walsh (Mitchellville, MD/Archbishop Spalding), freshman Michael Manen (West Orange, NJ/West Orange), sophomore Dean Campbell (La Plata, MD/La Plata), and senior Tyler Lowry (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy) finished first in the 400 medley relay in 4:32.15.

Washington swimmers took second place in five individual events. Kuhn was second in both the 200 individual medley (2:05.24) and the 100 freestyle (51.91). Evans swam a WC season-best time of 2:06.94 to finish second in the 200 backstroke. Soper was second in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.55, while Jensen was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:14.32.

The Shoremen close out their dual meet schedule Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Swarthmore.
