Shoremen Trap Gophers
Evans Wins Three Events

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Senior John Paul Evans (Westminster, MD/Westminster) won three individual events as the host Washington College men's swim team defeated visiting Goucher, 132.5-47.5, in a non-conference meet at Casey Swim Center.

The victory marked Washington head coach Kim Lessard's 201st at Washington College. She picked up her 200th win in the women's portion of the meet. She is the fifth coach in the history of Washington College athletics to record at least 200 victories at the school.

Evans won the 1000 freestyle in 10:58.92, the 100 backstroke in 59.44, and the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.88. Freshman Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) added wins in the 200 freestyle, in which he swam a WC season-best 1:50.95, and in the 500 freestyle (5:06.25). Senior Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey) also won two events - the 400 individual medley in a WC season-best time of 4:31.89, and the 100 freestyle in 51.85. Junior Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) added a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 58.49.

The Shoremen also won both relays. Kuhn, Jensen, sophomore Dean Campbell (La Plata, MD/La Plata), and freshman Chris Tinsman (Georgetown, DE/home school) placed first in the 200 medley relay in a WC season-best time of 1:48.33. Campbell, freshman Michael Manen (West Orange, NJ/West Orange), senior Tyler Lowry (Philadelphia, PA/Chestnut Hill Academy), and Soper won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.82.

The Shoremen also captured second place in five events. Tinsman placed second in the 50 freestyle in 24.10 and tied for second in the 100 freestyle in 52.30. Sophomore Shane Walsh (Mitchellville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) was second in the 1000 freestyle in 12:17.58, while Campbell took second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.39 and Manen placed second in the 500 freestyle in 5:55.03.

The Shoremen (4-3) return to action January 31st with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Dickinson.
