Wesolek Captures Two First-Place Finishes

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College men's swim team slipped to 2-2 this season with a 148-53 loss to visiting Widener this evening at Casey Swim Center. Freshman Andy Wesolek (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) won two events for the Shoremen.

Wesolek won the 50 freestyle in 22.03 and the 100 butterfly in 53.53. The 100 butterfly was the first of his collegiate career and his time was a WC season-best and placed him among the top four swimmers all-time at WC in the event.

Junior Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey) finished second in a pair of races - the 200 freestyle in 1:51.28 and the 200 backstroke in 2:05.80. Both of Kuhn's times were WC season-bests. Sophomore Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:20.66.

The Shoremen opened the meet with the 200 medley relay. Wesolek, Kuhn, senior Pat Cline (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional), and junior Dwayne Yerger (Naples, FL/Hill School) finished second in the race in a WC season-best time of 1:44.99.

Also turning in a WC season-best time was freshman Shane Walsh (Mitchelville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) in the 100 breaststroke. Walsh finished third in 1:13.20.

The Shoremen are back in action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. meet at Franklin & Marshall.
