8, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD - The Washington College men's swim team dropped a 95-93 Centennial Conference meet to visiting McDaniel this afternoon at Casey Swim Center. Freshman Andy Wesolek (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) won two individual events for the Shoremen. The Shoremen (4-5, 1-4 Centennial) led 70-67 after eight events, but a one-two finish in the 500 freestyle gave the Green Terror its first lead of the afternoon at 80-75. The Shoremen jumped back on top, 89-84, after junior John Evans (Westminster, MD/Westminster) won the 200 breaststroke in a WC season-best time of 2:15.72. The final event was the 400 freestyle relay and a 3:33.06 performance by McDaniel gave the Green Terror a 16-second win in the event and a two-point win in the meet. Wesolek won the 50 freestyle in 22.34 and he 100 freestyle in 49.39. Evans and junior Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey), who won the 200 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 1:50.55, accounted for the Shoremen's other individual first-place finishes. Wesolek, Evans, Kuhn, and senior Pat Cline (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) won the meet-opening 400 medley relay in 4:00.29. Kuhn added a second-place finish of 2:02.44 in the 200 backstroke. Senior J.C. Cronin (Newark, DE/Newark) was second in the 1000 freestyle in 11:39.74 and sophomore Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:10.39. The Shoremen's final dual meet is this Wednesday at Swarthmore at 8:00 p.m. |
