Strong Showing for WC at ECACs
Wesolek Captures One Silver, Two Bronzes

SEWELL, NJ - With just six swimmers at the meet, the Washington College men's swim team finished 10th of 16 teams at the ECAC Division III Swimming and Diving Championships held this past weekend at Gloucester County Institute of Technology. The Shoremen had many season-best swims at the event.

Freshman Andy Wesolek (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) led the group with a silver medal in the 50 freestyle, finishing in a season-best time of 21.79. He also took the bronze medals in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. He completed the 100 freestyle in 48.55 and the 100 backstroke in 54.74. Wesolek added a fifth-place finish in the 100 butterfly in a season-best time of 53.41. He also swam a 1:48.05 leg in the 800 freestyle, making him WC's fourth-fastest 200-yard freestyle swimmer ever.

Junior Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey) swam a season-best 2:03.7 in the 200 backstroke, finishing in fifth place. Kuhn added a seventh-place finish in the 400 individual medley in 4:28.82 and an eighth-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:04.0. He also swam a 1:50.8 in the 200 freestyle, finishing 14th.

Sophomore Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) turned in a time of 2:08 in the 200 butterfly, finishing 14th. He also swam to season-best times in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Senior J.C. Cronin (Newark, DE/Newark) and sophomore Conor Caporale (Laguna Niguel, CA/Dana Hills) each swam to season-best times in the 50 and 100 freestyles.

Washington finished ninth in both the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays. Wesolek, Kuhn, Jensen, and Caporlae swam the 200 medley in 1:43.92 and Wesolek, Jensen, Cronin, and Kuhn swam the 800 freestyle in 7:34.45.

Rowan won the team title at the meet, followed by Hartwick in second and SUNY-Geneseo in fourth.

The Shoremen will be in Florida for training from January 4th-11th. Their next meet is slated for January 21st, when they host Elizabethtown at 6:00 p.m.
