Wesolek, Evans Win Silver Medals
at Centennial Championships

LANCASTER, PA -- Washington College freshman Andy Wesolek (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and junior John Evans (Westminster, MD/Westminster) each won a silver medal this weekend at the Centennial Conference Championships. The Shoremen swim team finished sixth at the event.

Wesolek won his silver medal in the 50 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 21.66. He also finished fourth in the 100 freestyle in a WC season-best time of 47.71 and fourth in the 100 backstroke in 54.06, one-hundredth of a second off of the school record he set earlier this season.

Evans took the silver in the 200 breaststroke, swimming to a WC season-best time of 2:13.49. He was sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.42 after recording a WC season-best time of 1:02.29 in the preliminaries.

Junior Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey) finished fourth in one event and fifth in two others at the meet. He was fourth in the 200 individual medley in a WC season-best time of 1:59.66. He was fifth in the 400 individual medley in a WC season-best time of 4:19.45 and also fifth in the 200 backstroke in 2:01.12.

Other WC season-best times in individual events were turned in by sophomore Ken Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) and senior Pat Cline (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional). Jensen swam a 2:05.45 to finish 12th in the finals of the 200 butterfly. Cline swam a 55.03 in the preliminaries of the 100 butterfly and then finished 11th in 55.04 in the finals.

Three Washington relays swam to season-best times. Wesolek, Evans, Jensen and, Cline swam a 3:43.47 in the 400 medley, while Wesolek, Evans, Jensen, and Cline swam in a 1:43.23 in the 200 medley. Wesolek, Kuhn, Cline, and senior J.C. Cronin (Newark, DE/Newark) swam a 3:25.55 in the 400 freestyle. All three of those relay teams finished sixth.

Gettysburg narrowly defeated Franklin & Marshall, 782-765, for the team title. Swarthmore (593) was third, followed by Dickinson (508), McDaniel (280), the Shoremen (267) and Ursinus (151).
