WC Keeps It Close Against Terror
Evans Wins Three Events

WESTMINSTER, MD -- The Washington College men's swim team kept things close at Western Maryland for most of today's Centennial Conference swim meet, but fell 55-40 to slip to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in conference action this season. Sophomore John Evans (Westminster, MD/Westminster) won three events for Washington.

After sophomore Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey) posted a win in the 200 freestyle in 1:52.06, the Shoremen held a 16-9 lead through three events. After the Green Terror tied the meet at 17-17 in the 50 freestyle, Evans gave Washington a 22-21 lead by winning the 200 individual medley in 2:03.83. Western Maryland then took four of the top six spots over the next two events to pull ahead 33-28.

Evans then notched his second first-place finish, this one coming in the 200 backstroke in 2:04.21, but the Green Terror took second and third in the same event to maintain a 37-33 lead. Two events later, Evans's 1:02.81 in the 100 breaststroke gave him his third win, but Western Maryland took second place and clinched the win by holding a 48-40 win heading into the 200 free relay, which the Green Terror won.

The Shoremen had three individual second-place finishes on the day. Kuhn took second in the 100 freestyle in 51.30, senior Ryan Behles (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) was second in the 1000 freestyle in 11:14.61, and junior Pat Cline (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) finished second in the 100 butterfly in 56.64.

The Shoremen close out their dual meet season Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. conference meet at home against Swarthmore.
