WC Claims Meet Win with Final Relay
Shoremen Edge Salisbury, 105-101

CHESTERTOWN, MD - A personal-best split time of 24.59 by freshman Conor Caporale (Laguna Niguel, CA/Dana Hills) in the opening leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay helped edge the Washington College men's swim team past Eastern Shore-rival Salisbury University this evening by a 105-101 final.

Trailing 95-94 entering the 200 relay, the evening's final event, the Shoremen (2-1) were jump-started by Caporale's effort and went on the claim first place in the relay in 1:36.05, over three seconds ahead of the Sea Gulls. Washington led by as many as 16 points, 36-20 after the 200 freestyle, but the Sea Gulls had pulled ahead, 86-84 by taking first, second, and fourth place in the 500 freestyle. Rounding out the rest of the meet-winning relay squad for WC were freshman Kenneth Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest), junior Pat Cline (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional), and junior J.C. Cronin (Newark, DE/Newark).

Sophomore John Evans (Westminster, MD/Westminster) bolstered the Shoreman cause by winning each of the three individual events he entered. Evans took first in the 200 individual medley (2:08.87), 200 backstroke (2:08.45), and 200 breaststroke (2:15.38). Another sophomore, Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/Firestone) won two events, the 200 freestyle (1:50.40) and the 100 freestyle (50.94). Senior Ryan Behles (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) recorded the Shoremen's other individual first, touching the wall at 10:58.22 in the 1000 freestyle.

Caporale, Kuhn, Cline, and Cronin teamed to win the meet's opening event, the 200 medley relay, in 1:48.60. Individual second-place finishes were turned in by Cronin (50 freestyle, 24.66) and Jensen (200 butterfly, 2:13.87).

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Franklin & Marshall.
