22-24, 2002 LANCASTER, PA -- The Washington College men's swim team captured three medals, including one gold, and finished sixth this weekend at the Centennial Conference Championships at Franklin & Marshall College. Sophomore John Evans (Westminster, MD/Westminster) won Washington's gold on Sunday, swimming to an NCAA "B Cut" time and season-best time of 2:08.76 in the 200 breaststroke. Sophomore Alex Kuhn (Washington, PA/McGuffey) and Evans each won a silver medal on Saturday. Kuhn finished second in the 400 individual medley in 4:17.71, improving his personal-best time by well over three seconds. Evans was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.42. He swam a season-best 1:00.31 in the preliminaries earlier in the day. The Shoremen had a strong showing in the 200 individual medley on Friday, as Evans and Kuhn both finished in the top six. Evans took fifth in a season-best time of 1:59.20, while Kuhn was sixth in a personal-best time of 2:00.17. Kuhn also finished sixth in the 200 backstroke on Sunday with a personal-best time of 2:00.16. Junior Pat Cline (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) finished sixth in the 100 butterfly in a season-best time of 54.82 on Saturday. Senior Ryan Behles (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) finished eighth and swam to a season-best time of 17:34.37 in the 1650 freestyle on Sunday and recorded a personal-best time of 5:02.18 in the 500 freestyle and finished 13th on Friday. The Shoremen finished fifth in two relays and sixth in another. In the 400 medley relay on Friday, Kuhn, Evans, Cline and freshman Kenneth Jensen (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) swam a season-best time of 3:44.02 to place fifth. In Saturday's 800 freestyle relay, which the Shoremen were competing in for the first time this season, Kuhn, Evans, Jensen, and Behles finished fifth in 7:34.91. In Saturday night's first event, the 200 medley relay, the Shoremen shaved over four seconds off of their season-best time with a sixth-place finish in 1:42.99. Kuhn, Evans, Cline, and Jensen comprised that team. On Sunday, Kuhn, Evans, Jensen, and Behles finished sixth in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:25.64. Franklin & Marshall narrowly defeated Gettysburg, 752-722, for the team title. Dickinson (584.5) was third, followed by Swarthmore (545), Western Maryland (301.5), the Shoremen (268) and Ursinus (184). WC Gold Medal WC Silver Medals
