Men's Swimming Coaching Staff

Head Coach: Kim Lessard

Kim Lessard enters her 17th year as head coach of Washington’s men's swimming team and her 18th as head coach of Washington's women's swimming team. Lessard’s teams have continuously performed well in the pool and she has coached 18 All-Americans.

Her swimmers are also strong in the classroom; her teams are often awarded with Academic All-American recognition. Under Lessard’s leadership, the shoremen and -women swim teams have become involved in numerous community service projects including: a triathlon for cancer, an adopt-a-family-for Christmas program, the Special Olympics and a Learn to Swim program for third-graders.

Lessard earned her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and her Masters degree from Washington College. In addition to coaching, she serves as the Aquatic Director for Washington’s Casey Swim Center and is a physical education instructor.

In the summer, Lessard coaches the Sho’men Aquatics age group team, which has won the Delmarva Championships four times in six years. She also competes in US Masters Swimming. Lessard lives in Chestertown with her husband, Dan, and daughters, Devin and Kelsey.

Lessard was inducted into the Washington College Hall of Fame in October 2006.

Kim Lessard

Assistant Coach:
Chris Brandenberger

Chris Brandenberger is in his second season as an assistant coach at Washington College. Brandenberger starred at the University of Maryland for four seasons and served as a student assistant coach for the Terps during the 2005-06 season.

Brandenberger earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in the 200 backstroke as a junior at Maryland. As a senior, he served as a team tri-captain and swam on the school-record setting 800 freestyle relay team. Brandenberger is also a five-time Senior National Championships qualifier in the 200 backstroke.

While serving as a student assistant coach at Maryland during the 2005-06 academic year, Brandenberger also served as an assistant coach for the Upper Montgomery County Stingrays YMCA team. During the summer of 2006, he was the head coach of the North Creek Neptunes.

Brandenberger earned a degree in English from Maryland in 2006.
