2009 COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Junior James Bedrock (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) scored the game-tying goal in the 86th minute as visiting Washington College played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with host Ursinus College in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game this afternoon in Collegeville, PA. The tie was the first for the Shoremen (2-12-1, 0-6-1 Centennial) in over four years. After a scoreless first half, Josh Howell headed in a corner kick from David Breines to give the Bears (3-9-2, 0-6-1) a 1-0 lead at 68:38. The Shoremen netted the equalizer at 85:46 when Bedrock scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore Mike Vanaskie (Lancaster, PA/Cocalico). The Shoremen recorded the only two shots of the first overtime period, while the Bears held a 4-2 edge in shots in the second overtime. Washington sophomore Jordan Haas (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) tallied the final shot of the game, which went wide to the right, with 42 seconds to play. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made 11 saves for Washington, as Ursinus held a 25-11 advantage in shots in the game. Mike Alfieri made three saves for Ursinus. Before this afternoon, Washington's most recent tie was a 2-2 draw at home against Gettysburg on October 15, 2005. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Haverford.
