26, 2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Franklin & Marshall College scored two goals in each half en route to a 4-0 Centennial Conference men's soccer win over host Washington College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Diplomats improved to 5-2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 2-6 and 0-2 with the loss. F&M got on the board early as Matt Melino sent a corner kick to Eric Noto, who headed the ball to Josh Wirtshafter, who headed the ball into the goal at 5:12. The Diplomats made it 2-0 when Ryan Macomber scored off an assist from Giuseppe Bua at 42:28. Franklin & Marshall tacked on its third goal when a shot by Wirtshafter rebounded to Matt Krantz, who scored at 57:28. Bua gave the Diplomats a four-goal cushion with a goal off a pass ahead from Krantz at 64:01. F&M held an 18-4 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks in the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made seven saves for the Shoremen in the loss, playing the first 78:55. Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Cabot (Hightstown, NJ/Peddie School) made two saves in the final 11:05. Zach Zamek made two saves in 68:38 for F&M, while Adrian Heredia made one in the final 21:22. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Swarthmore.
