2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Swarthmore College scored three times in the second half to pull away from host Washington College en route to a 4-1 Centennial Conference men's soccer victory tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Garnet improved to 7-2-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Shoremen slipped to 2-6 and 0-3. Swarthmore got on the board at 30:18 when Dylan Langley headed in a pass from Jeff Kushner. The Garnet held an 8-5 advantage in shots in the first half. Yoi Tibbets made it 2-0 at 49:02 when he scored off a pass ahead and across the box from Morgan Langley. Washington cut the lead to 2-1 at 50:43 when freshman defender/midfielder Jordan Haas (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) sent a corner kick to senior midfielder Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC), whose shot was deflected into the goal by sophomore midfielder Gavin Rayburn (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll). Andreas Lagos pushed the Swarthmore lead back to two goals when he scored off a rebound following a shot from Langley at 81:35 to make it 3-1. Langley then found Lagos for another goal at 84:10 to put the game out of reach. Rayburn's goal was the first of his collegiate career, while Lagos scored the first two of his career. Swarthmore held a 26-9 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks in the game. David D'Annunzio made one save for Swarthmore, while freshman goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made nine stops for the Shoremen. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against McDaniel.
