2008 LANCASTER, PA -- Washington College freshman goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) has been named the Centennial Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending November 2nd. Phipps made a career-high 14 saves as the Shoremen defeated 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins, 1-0, Friday night to snap Washington's 15-game losing streak against the Blue Jays. The shutout was the first for Phipps, who made his 14th save in the final seconds of regulation, in his collegiate career. For the week, Phipps posted a .941 save percentage as he was also in goal for Washington's 2-1 win at Haverford Wednesday. The victory over Hopkins was Washington's first since 1992. Nine of Washington's 15 losses to Hopkins since then were by one goal, including each of the previous five. |
