Gophers Ground Shoremen, 3-2
Armiger, Haas Each Tally Goal, Assist in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Goucher College topped host Washington College, 3-2, in a non-conference men's soccer game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Gophers improved to 3-2 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 1-3 with the loss.

Goucher scored the only goal of the first half when Andrew Eden sent an indirect kick ahead to Chris Herting for a goal at 5:58.

The Gophers extended their lead to 2-0 at 56:04 when Julien Greco found a cutting Dan Brody, who got behind the defense and scored. The Shoremen got on the board at 64:06 as freshman midfielder Colin Kidwell (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) sent a ball across the field to senior forward Tony Armiger (Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven) who quickly found freshman defender/midfielder Jordan Haas (Wyomissing, PA/Wilson) in front of the goal for a double-assisted tally.

Goucher scored what would prove to be the difference maker at 77:43 when Tim McMullen converted a penalty kick to make it 3-1. Washington closed the gap to 3-2 when Haas sent a long cross off a restart to Armiger, who head the ball in at 81:56. Goucher was able to hold the Shoremen at bay the rest of the game, however, and held on for the win.

Washington outshot Goucher 11-7 in the game, including 9-4 in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made one save for the Shoremen, while Justin Holbrook had two stops for the Gophers.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. game at Arcadia.
