7, 2008 FARMVILLE, VA -- Eastern Mennonite University downed Washington College, 3-0, in men's soccer action this afternoon at the Hampden-Sydney College Arby's Tiger Invitational. The Royals improved to 4-0 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 1-2 with the loss. The tournament was scheduled to be a two-day affair, but Saturday's games were canceled due to Tropical Storm Hanna. Neither team scored until Cory Parsons put the Royals on the board at the 37:45 mark to give Eastern Mennonite a 1-0 lead at halftime. Junior Kamandua made it 2-0 with a goal off a feed from Charles Metz IV at 49:46 and Philip Yoder found Jay Shearer for the final goal of the game at 78:04. Eastern Mennonite held a 26-7 advantage in shots in the game, while Washington had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Chris Phipps (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) made 12 saves in the loss for Washington. Senior midfielder Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) and sophomore defender Danny Wood (Lancaster, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) represented the Shoremen on the All-Tournament Team. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with their home opener, a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game against Goucher.
