Garnet Swat Shoremen, 2-0
Petrucci Makes Nine Saves in Loss

SWARTHMORE, PA -- Host Swarthmore College scored twice in the middle of the first half of a 2-0 Centennial Conference men's soccer victory over visiting Washington College tonight on Clothier Field. The Garnet improved to 6-1-3 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 3-6 and 0-3 with the loss.

Swarthmore's Michael Bonesteel blasted in the first shot on goal of the game when he scored from 30 yards out at the 18:37 mark. Stu Leon and Christopher Szeto picked up assists on the goal. The Garnet increased its lead to 2-0 when Yoi Tibbets scored on a penalty kick at 29:12. Swarthmore took its 2-0 lead into halftime after enjoying a 16-2 advantage in shots in the period.

The Garnet outshot the Shoremen, 11-3, in the second half for a total advantage in shots of 27-5 for the game. Swarthmore also had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks in the contest.

Ryan Sutcliffe played the first half in goal for Swarthmore, making no saves. Zach Wiemar played the second half, making two saves. Senior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) made nine saves for the Shoremen.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel.
