2, 2007 WILLIAMSPORT, PA -- The host Lycoming College men's soccer team scored the only goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 80th minute of a 1-0 victory over visiting Washington College in the championship game of the River Kickoff Classic this afternoon in Williamsport, PA. The Warriors improved to 2-0 on the season with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 1-1 with the loss. Matt Frey booted in the Warriors' penalty kick goal at 79:11. Washington's last shot came at 89:19 when senior midfielder/forward Gabe Dopazo (Washington, DC/Winston Churchill, MD) sent a header wide of the goal. Lycoming held an 18-5 advantage in shots in the game. Senior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) tallied eight saves in the loss for the Shoremen, while David Bald made three saves in the shutout for Lycoming. The Warriors also maintained a 6-3 edge in penalty kicks. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with their home opener, a 7:00 p.m. contest against Eastern Shore rival Salisbury University.
