12, 2007 TOWSON, MD -- Travis Boland scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute to give host Goucher College a 3-2 win over visiting Washington College in a non-conference men's soccer game this afternoon on Beldon Field in Towson, MD. The Gophers improved to 3-2 with the win, while the Shoremen, who got both of their goals from senior midfielder Frank Borelli (Malaga, NJ/Delsea Regional), slipped to 2-3 with the loss. Adam Wilkinson put the Gophers on the board when he booted in a loose ball in transition at the 12:38 mark. Goucher took the 1-0 lead into halftime after holding a 6-2 advantage in shots in the first half. Borelli evened the score for Washington at 49:24 when he booted a ball into the top left corner of the goal off an assist from junior midfielder Conor Halesworth (Randolph, NJ/Randolph). Borelli scored his second goal of the game at 66:41 when he knocked in a ball that got away from Goucher goalkeeper Justin Holbrook. Tim McMullen tied the score for the Gophers with a penalty kick goal at 80:55. Boland then scored the game-winner for the Gophers at 85:55 to give Goucher the 3-2 lead. Goucher held a 13-7 advantage in shots in the game, while Washington maintained a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. The Shoremen scored on their only two shots on goal in the game; their other five shots went wide. Senior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) tallied five saves in the loss for Washington. The Shoremen open Centennial Conference play Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. home game against Dickinson.
