Bell Boots Bullets Past Shoremen, 4-0

GETTYSBURG, PA -- Brandon Bell scored three goals and assisted on another as host Gettysburg College defeated visiting Washington College, 4-0, in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game this afternoon. The Bullets improved to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 4-9 and 0-6 with the loss.

Junior forward Brian Schultz (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) had the Shoremen's best scoring chance in the first half, beating a defender and getting off a quality shot around the 25th minute, but Gettysburg goalkeeper Matt Langston was able to punch it away as both teams wound up scoreless in the opening period. Gettysburg held a 7-2 advantage in shots in the opening half.

Gettysburg got on the board early in the second half when Bell scored on a breakaway off an assist from Sean Lucey at 47:21. The lead grew to 2-0 when Bell and Luchey reversed rolls for a goal at 57:37. Lucey headed in a ball five yards out off a Bell cross. The Bullets made it 3-0 on Bell's second goal at 77:39. Brad Tabor played a chip ball from about 40 yards out and Bell ran under it and deflected the ball past WC senior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove). Bell completed his hat trick at 79:14 when he scored off a cross from Chris Banyon.

Gettysburg outshot Washington, 23-8, for the game and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Langston made a pair of saves for the Bullets, while Petrucci had three in the loss for the Shoremen.

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game at Delmarva rival Wesley College .
