Red Devils Clip Shoremen, 1-0, in OT
Petrucci Makes Career-High 16 Saves in Loss

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Thomas Parkinson scored the game's only goal in the 100th minute to give visiting Dickinson College a 1-0 overtime win over host Washington College in the Centennial Conference men's soccer opener for both schools Saturday afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Red Devils improved to 6-0 overall with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 2-4 with the loss.

Neither team scored in the first half. Dickinson's Matthew Critchlow scored an apparent goal with one second left in the period, but was offside. Dickinson held an 8-5 advantage in shots in the first half and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

Dickinson's best chance for a goal in the second half came when Paul Coyle was award a penalty kick at 79:48, but Washington senior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) made a diving stop to keep the Red Devils off the scoreboard. Petrucci made eight saves in the second half, as Dickinson held a 13-5 advantage in shots in the period.

Dickinson held a 4-1 advantage in shots in overtime, three of them coming in the final sequence. Parkinson had a shot stopped by a diving Petrucci; the ball then came back out to John Freed, but Petrucci made another save before Parkinson booted in the game-winner at 99:01.

The Red Devils held a 25-11 advantage in shots in the game. Each team finished with eight corner kicks.

Petrucci made a career-high 16 saves for the Shoremen in the loss; Rodrigo Barboza made four saves for Dickinson.

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game at Delaware Valley.
