Shoremen Expel Cardinals, 1-0
Armiger Scores Game's Only Goal

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior forward/midfielder Tony Armiger (Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven) scored the only goal of the game in the 31st minute as host Washington College topped visiting Catholic, 1-0, in a non-conference men's soccer game tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shoremen improved to 4-8 with the win, while the Cardinals fell to 5-7.

The goal came when junior forward Brian Schultz (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) played the ball at midfield to senior midfielder Frank Borelli (Malaga, NJ/Delsea Regional), who sent the ball to Armiger. Armiger then sent the ball off the right post and into the goal to give the Shoremen a 1-0 lead at 30:54.

Catholic's Tim McAneny had a good scoring chance in the 63rd minute, but his shot was turned away at the line when Washington junior defender Phil Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) played the ball off his body.

Each team got off 10 shots in the game. Washington senior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) made four saves in the shutout, while Quinn Daly made a pair of stops for Catholic. The Cardinals had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Gettysburg.
