Shoremen Muffle Mighty Macs, 1-0
Washington Off to Best Start in 25 Years

IMMACULATA, PA -- The Washington College men's soccer team improved to 4-1 for the first time since 1981 with a 1-0 win over host Immaculata University this evening. Immaculata slipped to 1-5 with the loss.

The Shoremen got on the board when senior forward Josh Todd (Crisfield, MD/Crisfield) knocked in a goal after corralling a shot sent off the post by sophomore midfielder/defender Phil Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) at the 8:40 mark. Baker was credited with his first collegiate assist on the goal.

Immaculata's final chance to tie the game came in the final seconds on a direct kick, but Washington junior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) made a diving save to preserve the victory.

Petrucci made five saves en route to his second consecutive shutout and his third in five games this season. Brian Panagos played the first half for the Mighty Macs, making one save and allowing Todd's goal. Stone Gahagan made five saves in the second half for Immaculata.

Washington held a 14-9 advantage in shots in the game. Immaculata had a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Muhlenberg.
