2006 GETTYSBURG, PA -- Host Gettysburg College downed visiting Washington College, 3-0, in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game today, ending the Shoremen's three game-win streak. The Bullets improved to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in Centennial play with the win, while the Shoremen dropped to 7-5 and 2-4. Chris Bayon scored Gettysburg's first goal off an assist from Mike Tirney at 34:53. Matt Varner then made it 2-0 when he scored off a feed from Jesse Gemberling-Johnson at 41:20. The Bullets' third goal came on a second-half penalty kick by Garrett Bruno at 63:33. Gettysburg goalkeeper Adam Finkel made five saves in the shutout. Junior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) made two saves in the loss for the Shoremen. The Bullets held a 15-9 advantage in shots and a 10-3 edge in corner kicks in the game. The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game at Catholic.
