2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Nineteenth-ranked Franklin & Marshall jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead en route to a 4-1 Centennial Conference men's soccer win over host Washington College this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Diplomats improved to 12-1-2 overall and 6-0-1 in conference play, while the Shoremen slipped to 8-6 and 2-5. Brandon Corday fed the ball ahead to Matt Melino, who headed the ball in to open the scoring for F&M at 15:40. Corday then scored off a Ryan McGonigle feed at 16:22 to make it 2-0 and later tallied an unassisted goal at 27:30 to extend the lead to 3-0. McGonigle finished the first half scoring by knocking in a throw from Steve Loscalzo at 42:43. Washington got on the board at the 58:12 mark with a double-assisted goal. Sophomore midfielder Conor Halesworth (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) played the ball out of the corner to senior defender/midfielder Jonnie Jenkins (Westminster, MD/South Carroll), who tapped the ball behind him to junior midfielder Frank Borelli (Malaga, NJ/Delsea Regional), who then booted the ball in for the goal. The assist credited to Jenkins was the first of his collegiate career. F&M goalkeepers Ed Stelz and Sandy Welsch each played a half. Stelz made two saves, while Welsch made three and allowed Washington's goal. Washington junior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) made 12 saves in the loss. F&M held a 22-9 advantage in shots and a 9-4 edge in corner kicks in the game. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins.
