WC Gives Hoffman OT Win in Debut
Todd Scores Game-Winner in 4-3 Victory

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior forward Josh Todd (Crisfield, MD/Crisfield) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Washington College men's soccer team a 4-3 win over visiting Chesntut Hill this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium in the season opener for both teams. The win came in Drew Hoffman's debut as head coach of the Shoremen. The game was part of Washington College's Jammin Jesse's Opening Weekend.

Washington took a 1-0 lead when Todd booted in a loose ball at the 12:12 mark. The Griffins even the score when Ralph Haaf passed ahead to Andrew Thorne, who scored from inside the box at 35:00. The Shoremen regained the lead on goal by sophomore forward/midfielder Brian Schultz (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) at 40:34 to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime.

Thorne knotted the game at 2-2 when he scored off a feed from Jeff Lewin at 55:11. The Shoremen regained the lead when Schultz found sophomore midfielder Conor Halesworth (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) for a goal at 58:22 to give WC a 3-2 advantage. The Griffins tied the score again at 61:41 when Ralph Haaf knocked in a goal.

Neither team would score again until Todd's game-winner at 99:26. A shot by Schultz rebounded off Chestnut Hill goalkeeper Adley Amzovski and was sent into the goal by Todd.

Junior goalkeeper Marc Petrucci (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) made nine saves for the Shoremen in the game, while Amzovski also made nine saves for the Griffins.

Washington held a 22-15 advantage in shots in the game and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Shoremen return to action Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game at SUNY Purchase.
