Shoremen Win Battle of Delmarva Rivals
Todd Records Goal and Assist Against Wesley

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College defeated Delmarva rival Wesley College, 3-1, in a non-conference men's soccer game this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Shoremen improved to 4-8 with the victory, while the Wolverines slipped to 6-8 with the loss.

Washington junior forward Josh Todd (Crisfield, MD/Crisfield) opened the scoring at 28:37 with his team-high seventh goal of the season. Todd beat Wolverine goalkeeper Edward Hunt to the ball, and slipped the ball in for the goal. Senior defender Matthew Watson (Pembroke, Bermuda/Westminster School, CT) assisted on the goal.

Sophomore midfielder Frank Borelli (Malaga, NJ/Delsea Regional) scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal, and the first goal of his collegiate career, at 61:31. Borelli followed up a saved shot by Todd, and headed the ball into the back of the net for the score.

Wesley would cut the lead to 2-1 at 78:17 when freshman forward Damian Arellano slipped a shot by Washington sophomore goalkeeper Mike Gillis (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen). However, Washington freshman forward Brian Schultz (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) would add an insurance goal, his fourth of the season, for the Shoremen at 86:19. Schultz cut towards the net and deposited the ball into the back of the net after receiving a clean cross pass from freshman midfielder Conor Halesworth (Randolph, NJ/Randolph).

Washington junior goalkeeper Sean Ferri (Northport, NY/Kings Park) started the game in net and made three saves in the first half. Gillis, who replaced Ferri at the start of the second half, made two saves to help preserve the victory.

The Shoremen return to action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home game against Centennial Conference opponent Gettysburg.
