28, 2005 SWARTHMORE, PA -- Host Swarthmore College scored three goals in the first half en route to a 3-1 Centennial Conference men's soccer win over visiting Washington College this evening in Swarthmore, PA. The Garnet improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 2-6 and 1-2. Swarthmore took a 1-0 lead on a header by Michael Bonesteel off a cross from Ladule Lako Lo Sarah 48 seconds into the game. Andrew Terker pushed the lead to 2-0 on goal at 26:05 off assists from Duncan Gromko and Chris Szeto and then scored again 30 seconds later off an assist from Matt Schiller at 26:35 to make it 3-0. The Shoremen got on the board at the 48:44 when senior midfielder Derek Dombrowski (St. Michael's, MD/St. Michael's) blasted in a shot from near the top of the box off an assist from freshman forward Brian Schultz (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall). The goal was the first of Dombrowski's collegiate career. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Gillis (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) played the second half for Washington, made five saves, and allowed no goals. Swarthmore held a 22-11 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in corner kicks. The Shoremen return to action Saturday when they face Centennial Conference rival Haverford in their home opener at 1:00 p.m.
