Todd Scores Goal for Shoremen

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Kyle Hodges scored the game-winning goal in the 104th minute as visiting Shenandoah University defeated host Washington College, 2-1, in double overtime in a non-conference men's soccer game this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Hornets improved to 5-8 on the season with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 4-9-1 with the loss.

Junior forward Josh Todd (Crisfield, MD/Crisfield) gave the Shoremen a 1-0 lead when he dribbled past a defender and booted in a goal at 26:14 to extend his goal-scoring streak to three games. The Hornets evened the score just before halftime when William Phoumin scored off an assist from Fabian Rowe at 44:40.

Neither team would score again until Hodges netted the game-winner on a booming kick from 20 yards out at 103:22. Washington had run off 16 consecutive shots in the second period and two overtimes before Hodges scored.

Chris Peter made 12 saves for Shenandoah. Washington junior goalkeeper Sean Ferri (Northport, NY/Kings Park) played the first 45 minutes for Washington, made four saves and allowed one goal. Sophomore Mike Gillis (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) went the rest of the way in goal for the Shoremen and allowed the final goal.

Washington held a 21-8 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in corner kicks in the game.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at Franklin & Marshall.
