September 3, 2005 BROCKPORT, NY -- Buffalo State defeated Washington College, 3-2, in the men's soccer season opener for both teams this afternoon in a semifinal game of the SUNY Brockport Tournament in Brockport, NY. Junior forward Josh Todd (Crisfield, MD/Crisfield) and senior midfielder Jaron Putmon (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) each scored one goal for the Shoremen. Dominic Senyah gave the Bengals a 1-0 lead just 4:37 into the game when he scored off an assist from Matt Ketchum. Todd evened the score with an unassisted goal at 24:54, but Prisco Houndanon found Steve Orfanos for a goal at 42:14 to put Buffalo State up, 2-1, at halftime. Houndanon extended the lead to 3-1 with a goal off a feed from Doug DeCook at 53:21, but the Shoremen quickly trimmed to lead back to one when Putmon scored off the first collegiate assist from freshman midfielder Conor Halesworth (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) at 54:09. The Bengals were able to hold on to the one-goal lead for the remainder of the game. Buffalo State held a 13-10 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. The Shoremen will play in the consolation game of the SUNY Brockport Tournament tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against Medaille. Medaille lost to SUNY Brockport in today's other semifinal, 2-0.
