September 5, 2004 FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- Senior midfielder Tom Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 28th minute as the Washington College men's soccer team downed Savannah College of Art & Design, 2-1, at the Mary Washington Classic in Fredericksburg, VA. The Shoremen improved to 2-1 with the win, while SCAD fell to 3-1. Washington took an early 1-0 lead as junior midfielder Jaron Putmon (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) booted in a free kick at 1:46. The Bees evened the score just 46 seconds later when Zach Behrman found Chris Cannon for a goal at 2:32. Baker's goal came at the 27:27 mark on a breakaway off an assist from junior defender Matthew Watson (Pembroke, Bermuda/Westminster School, CT). The assist was the first of Watson's collegiate career. Washington senior goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) made nine saves in the win, helping the Shoremen overcome a 15-5 advantage in shots for SCAD. The Bees also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
